Step 1 of 3: Fill out the "Enter Information for Public Display" form. When you have entered as much information as you wish, click the "Preview Listing" button at the bottom of the form to proceed
Step 2 of 3: Preview your Listing. If everything is satisfactory click the "Save and Checkout" button to proceed.
Step 3 of 3: Finalize your Listing. Fill of the "Account Information" form and click the "Create Listing" button at the bottom of the form. Your Listing will be created.
2. How do I Edit or Update My Listing?
Sign in to your account (click on "sign in" in the header of the map page) using your e-mail address and password. This will take you to your Account Page. On your Account Page click on "Edit Listing." This will take take you to the Listing Form you first filled out. Make the changes you wish to make and click on the Preview Listing button at the bottom of the form. Review your changes on the Preview Page and, when you are satisfied, click on "Save Changes."
3. Why is the Location of my Map Marker Incorrect and How do I Correct It?
Possible reasons for incorrect placement of the map markers on The Arts Map include: a) there was an internet communications problem while you were creating your listing, b) you did not include a specific street address in your listing, c) you spelled the name of your street incorrectly, or d) you entered the incorrect postal code (zipcode) for your location, or d) the software does not recognize your address. Please follow the following steps to correct your marker location...

  1. Please check the postal code you entered.
  2. Please check the address you entered.
  3. If your marker is almost in the right place but you want to move it a little please consider following the instructions in #4 below..
  4. If you did not include a specific street address in your listing, or if you spelled the name of your street incorrectly, or if the software does not recognize your address, your map marker will be placed in the center of the community you entered in the City and State/Province fields. If this is the case and you cannot satisfactorily correct the placement of your pin by editing your listing, consider manually adjusting or moving the location of your marker (please see #4 below).
  5. If your pin is mislocated in Memphis, Tennessee it usually means there was an internet communications problem during the "create listing" process. If that is the case, you will need to enter a temporary alternate address, save your listing, and then re-enter your actual address and save your listing again. Here are steps you can follow to do this: a) Change your street address to '2 Amity Road'. b) Change your city to 'Warwick'. c) Change your state to 'New York'. d) Change your postal code (zip code) to '10990'. e) Click on 'Save Listing.' f) Click on 'Edit Listing.' g) Enter the correct street, city, state and postal code of your location. h) Click on 'Save Listing'. i) Check the location of your marker on the map Note: Please remember that this option is for markers which are mislocated in Memphis, Tennessee only.
  6. The placement of the map markers is determined by, among other things, global positioning data (latitude and longitude) and the interpretation of that data by software provided by Google Maps. If the pin is not in the correct location search for your address on Google Maps and see if the same error appears there. If it does, consider consider manually adjusting or moving the location of your marker by following the instructions in #4 below.
  7. If all else fails and you need additional assistance, e-mail us at info@theartsmap.com and we will do our best to help you.
4. How do I Manually Adjust or Move the Location of my Map Marker?
To adjust or move the location of your map marker sign in to your account (click on "sign in" in the header of the map page) using your e-mail address and password. This will take you to your Account Page. On your Account Page click on "Edit Listing." Scroll down to the bottom of the form and click the "Preview Listing" button. Then look for the words "click here to correct your marker location" in red located under the bold title "Step 2: Confirm Marker Location and Listing Content." Click on those red words and follow the instructions. Note: You can move your marker a few yards or you can move it half-way around the world. There are no limitations to this process. If you need additional assistance, e-mail us at info@theartsmap.com and we will do our best to help you.
5. Why does my Map Marker read "Multiple Listings at this Location?"
Two things can cause map markers to read "Multiple Listings at this Location."
  1. There is more than one artist's studio or arts organization at a single address.
  2. You chose not to include a street address in your listing and as a result your listing appears on a pin in the center of your community along with other artists or organizations who chose not to include street addresses in their listings.
6. How do I move my Map Marker from "Multiple Listings at this Location?" to an Individual Marker?
To move your information to an individual marker sign in to your account using your e-mail address and password and click on "Edit Listing." This will take you to the form you originally filled out. Add a street address for your pin and click "save listing." That should create an individual marker in a new location.
Note 1: If the map does not appear on your detail page when you edit your listing please refresh the page. If the map still does not appear please e-mail us at info@theartsmap.com and we will look into it.
7. If I have a "Major" Problem with My Listing What Should I Do?
Here are three options which you may find useful:
  1. You can E-MAIL US at info@theartsmap.com and we will try to help you. Please explain your problem to us as clearly as possible.
  2. You can TEMPORARILY HIDE your listing until your concerns are resolved. To do this, sign in to your account using your e-mail address and password and uncheck the "Show Listing" box on your account page.
  3. You can DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT which will remove your information from The Arts Map but please be aware that if you do this it will permanently remove your information from the map and you will have to recreate your listing from the beginning. To DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT, sign in to your account using your e-mail address and password and click the words "Delete your listing."
8. How do I Create More than One Account?
At this time all that is required to create an account is a unique e-mail address. If you have an alternative e-mail address you can use it to create a second account. Both accounts can be at the same address or they can be at different addresses.
Note: If you do not have an alternate e-mail address consider creating one at Gmail or at hotmail. Both provide free e-mail services.
9. How do I Add an Image to my Listing?
  1. If you are creating the listing for the first time go to the bottom of the "Enter Information for Public Display" form and find the box labeled "Upload Image." To the right of that box there is a button labeled "Browse" Click on the "Browse" button and search your computer for the image you wish to upload. When you have found the image double click on it and the name of the file should appear in the "Upload Image" box. When you click the "Preview Listing" button below the bottom of the form the image will upload and you should see it on your preview page.
Note 1: If your image does not appear it is possible that a)the image was too large. Images must be less than 1 meg in size. b)The image was not a jpg, jpeg, gif, or png file. Image files must be in one of these formats in order for our software to recognize them. If conditions "a" and "b" have been met and the image still does not appear please e-mail us at info@theartsmap.com and we will try to assist you.
  2. Note 2: To upload your image you will have to click the 'browse' button, and select an image. Dragging an image does not work in most web applications.

  3. If you are editing your listing sign in to your account using your e-mail address and password and click on "Edit Listing." This will take you to the form you originally filled out except that the heading on the form will now say "Update Information for Public Display". Go to the bottom of the form and find the box labeled "Upload Image." To the right of that box there is a button labeled "Browse" Click on the "Browse" button and search your computer for the image you wish to upload.
  4. Note 2: To upload your image you will have to click the 'browse' button, and select an image. Dragging an image does not work in most web applications.

10. How do I Create A Favorites List?
When you visit a location you wish to add to your Favorites List check the "Add to Favorites" box. This box appears both in the balloon that comes up when you click on a marker and also on the detail page for each location. You can add as many locations to your Favorites List as you wish to.
Note: If you are an account holder and are signed in when you create your favorites your list will be created in the database and will be viewable from any computer as long as you are signed in. If you are not signed in the favorites will be saved to a cookie on the computer you are using and the Favorites List will only be viewable from that computer.
11. How do I View my Favorites List?
To view your Favorites List click on "My Favorites" in the navigation bar at the top of The Arts Map page.
12. Why Do Some Countries Lack Detailed Map Information?
Some countries lack detailed map information because that information has not yet been incorporated into the Google Maps API database which forms the basis of The Arts Map. For additional information go to http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/mapcoverage_filtered.html
13. A Note About Spam, Scams, and "Phishing"
As the internet has developed, Spam, Scams, and Phishing have become part of our world. If you included your e-mail address in the contact information on your detail page when you created your listing there is no way to stop spammers, scammers, and "phishers" (those who try to get you to give up social security numbers, passwords, or other private information) from taking your e-mail address and putting it on their lists. This is not a flaw in The Arts Map. Any website is vulnerable. Some scams focus on artists, perhaps because we are viewed as being more trusting and therefor more susceptable to being cheated. At the end of this paragraph is a list of the e-mails of known scammers targeting artists on The Arts Map. But since scammers can change e-mails at will, if you get a questionable e-mail from anyone, it is good to do a google search for that e-mail. Often you can find out if it a scam that way. At this time one known scam is targeting artists on The Arts Map using the e-mail address chaseay.ay@gmail.com
